Because of weather issues, this event has been CHANGED TO SUNDAY 9/13.
SOLD OUT - This popular event has sold out once again this year. If you are still interested in attending, try the Lake Bluff History Museum or the History Center of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff websites. Both are offering tours later in the month. Thank you for your interest. We hope to see you at another one of our upcoming events.
The Lake Forest Preservation Foundation is proud to present 2 opportunities to take a self-guided tour of Crab Tree Farm on Saturday September 12th, for weather reasons, changed to Sunday, 9/13 at 10 AM & 1 PM. Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while exploring the gardens, architecture, and history.
Crab Tree Farm is the last operating farm located on Lake Michigan, in the State of Illinois. Originally a dairy operation, then a Yorkshire pig farm, it has had three private owners in its one-hundred plus year history.
A map will be provided, digitally, and you can walk at your own pace to designated markers, on a route, that will have a QR code on the marker. Simply scan the code with your phone or Ipad and read the history about the location which you are standing. Some of the people who have done designs at CTF over its history are Hugh Garden, Jens Jensen, Solon S. Beman, Peter Wirtz and John Vinci.
As an added bonus to the self guided tour of the grounds, one of the farm buildings, The Lodge, containing the American Arts & Crafts styled furnishings of Gustav Stickley will be available to pass through. Also, a peek into the woodworking shop of Craftsman Mike Jarvi can be had. *** Masks are required to enter these places. Please follow the State of Illinois Guidelines on Social Distancing while on the grounds of CTF.
Select either the 10 AM or 1 PM start time. Tickets are $25 each for members or $35 each for nonmembers, or purchase a Friends Membership to the Preservation Foundation for $90 and receive 4 tickets for your family. Individual drinks and refreshments will be served. Ticket sales will be limited to the first 50 people each session. This event usually sells out, so get your tickets early and enjoy the tour!
